Opus 12

Instead of hands pointing at numbers on the Opus 12′s face, the watch uses a series of spinning markers to indicate the current time. The markers—12 in total—are positioned at the five-minute marks in long and short pairs that distinguish between the hour and minutes. And each one flips to reveal a metallic blue finish which is how the wearer actually reads the time.

At the top of every hour all of the markers rotate in sequence like a well-choreographed performance, but it’s really nothing more than eye candy for the select few lucky enough to own one. Since Harry Winston only plans to produce just 120 of the watches, with a price tag that I’m sure will match their exclusivity. Harry Winston – Opus 12

The Rape Axe

The device, known as The Rape-Axe, is a latex sheath embedded with shafts of sharp, inward-facing microscopic barbs that would be worn by a woman in her vagina like a tampon. If an attacker were to attempt vaginal rape, their penis would enter the latex sheath and be snagged by the barbs, causing the attacker pain during withdrawal and giving the victim time to escape. The condom would remain attached to the attacker’s body when he withdrew and could only be removed surgically, which would alert hospital staff and police. This device could assist in the identification and prosecution of rapists.

As soon as the Condom USB detects a virus, built-in software shuts off USB access, verifies the problem, removes the nasty bug, then reopens the communication bridge to your computer. Snazzy but would this really work in the real world?

Othmar Mühlebach just won the second prize at the Berner Design Awards for his toaster re-design. Based on the idea of a printer, you lay a stack of bread at the top and each slice runs through the toaster.

This design could be modified to burn any kind of graphic. Might overheat the USB cable though.

This camera doesn’t have a display! So every time you take a picture it’s like throwing a dart in the dark, you never know what pose, angle or subject you may capture. Not knowing is sometimes better, because this ways you can capture “real” pics instead of artificial smiles. Oneshot Camera has more tricks up its sleeves: it needs a good shake to produce its own power (through piezoelectricity), no confusing buttons, just click pictures like how you click a ballpoint pen. Face recognition software and light measuring software manage the show and biggest thing of all…there is no display! See your handiwork by uploading the pictures on the computer using the mini-usb.

Some people still prefer carrying cash around. We have sort of phased paper money out of our lives, keeping a spare $20 around in case of emergencies. The one dangerous thing about only using a bank card is that you can lose track of your spending really quick. A futuristic design concept might change how we budget ourselves.

Using RFID technology, Designer Jacob Palmborg has conceived of this futuristic card that would have real time data for all of your existing accounts. A screen interface would display your current available balance as well as recent purchases and receipts. Biometric security features make sure that only you can access the information. Something like this also produces the possibility to have one all-encompassing card that could hold your drivers license and passport.

However, I suggest you’d better not taste them, because they’re actually portable storage devices from Korea. The ice cream part of the popsicle is a hard drive and the stick is a USB flash drive. At present, there’re three flavors, including Chocolate (120GB HD / 8GB flash), Strawberry (80GB HD / 4GB flash) and Vanilla (60GB HD / 2GB flash).
